After carefully reviewing the pool of nominations, we are excited to announce the first recipient of our Community Comfort Program… January’s HVAC unit goes to an individual who is known within the Johnston County community as being a man who puts others first. Congratulations to Dwight and Linda Sorrells on being our chosen family!
Read their story…
A family man, community supporter and retired fireman with a huge heart… there’s no wonder why we chose Dwight Sorrells as our first Community Comfort Program recipient.
In 1992 Dwight was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and has since been also battling bladder cancer and diabetes. Ongoing chemotherapy treatments since diagnosis resulted in the loss of his left leg in 2004. Despite this disability his passion for helping others has not wavered. A former electrician and heating and air technician, he uses his knowledge of the industry to fix many electrical or HVAC issues for elderly, widows and single moms, often without pay and after work hours. Recognized as Pine Level’s Citizen of the Year in 1992, Dwight remains active in his church and operates the ministry’s sound system.
It is an honor to give our first HVAC unit to an individual who has always put his community and family first.
